Central Administration Complex - Competition

For this invited competition for a new office building as a prelude to the industrial park, we developed the building volumes according to their functions in terms of dimension and grid and optimised their arrangement on the basis of the spatial and route relationships.

The architectural language of the office areas refers to the regionally typical, long and proven tradition of clinker brick industrial buildings with ribbon windows, with restrained but durable and functionally proven materials, proportions and formats.

The concise design of the third building follows the uses as a canteen, flexible area for press conferences and internal meetings as well as a central reception and distribution area.

The use of modern constructions with added value proposed by us is contemporary, e.g. the choice of prefabricated, wide-span hollow core ceilings with integrated media guidance and daylight control in the transom of the ribbon windows. The constructions each offer concept-immanent synergies without the need for maintenance-prone technology or even electronics.

The additional function of the canteen, a flexible area for press conferences and internal meetings, as well as a central reception and circulation node were also decisive in generating the overall form of the building.

The three volumes and their relative positions were carefully considered to present clearly defined functional zones, as well as optimizing circulation routes, and allowing for the creation of fire compartments in accordance with the building code.

Successful architecture firstly achieves all practical, organizational, and economic requirements but also presents an appropriate aesthetic and image. Our design strikes the right balance in achieving all requirements as well as creating a timeless and modern interpretation of indigenous industrial architecture.
